Reasons Dental Tourism Is Not A Good Idea.

Dental tourism is a trend that entails traveling to other countries for dental care, often in search of cheaper prices or more advanced treatments. While this may seem like a good idea to some, there are several reasons that traveling for dental care can be a detrimental mistake, and why it is not recommended for individuals seeking dental care. In this blog post, we’ll discuss why dental tourism may be a bad idea and why choosing a trusted denture or dental clinic for your dental needs is important for your oral and overall health.

5 Reasons You Shouldn’t Dental Tourism

Safety Concerns

One of the biggest concerns with dental tourism is the safety of the procedure. Many countries may not have the same regulations or standards in place as Canada, which could lead to unsafe and unsterile dental practices. Additionally, if a complication were to arise during or after the procedure, it may be difficult to access follow-up care or receive compensation for any damages while getting treatment abroad.

Lack of Accountability

When you choose a local denture or dental clinic, you have the assurance that the clinic is held accountable for its practices and outcomes. However, if you choose dental tourism, there is often a lack of accountability for the dental professionals or clinics. This lack of accountability could result in poor quality of care or even malpractice.

Language Barriers

Another significant challenge with dental tourism is the potential for language barriers. You may not be able to communicate your dental needs or understand the instructions of the dental staff. This can lead to misunderstandings and improper treatment, which can ultimately harm your oral and overall health.

Unknown Materials

When you receive dental care from a trusted denture clinic in Calgary, you can be confident in the quality of materials used for your dental treatments. However, when you choose dental tourism, you may not know the quality or source of the materials used. This can lead to potential health risks, such as allergic reactions, infections, or worse.

Hidden Costs

While dental tourism may appear to be a cost-effective option, there are often hidden costs involved. For example, the cost of travel, lodging, and follow-up care may not be included in the initial quote for the dental procedure. This can result in unexpected expenses that may ultimately cost you more than receiving dental care from a trusted denture clinic in Canada

Horror Stories.

We have had a number of calls from people who went through with treatment in Mexico because of the lower prices and maybe get a holiday out of it in the meantime. However, the wife of a man who got denture implants called and said “ever since he got his dentures he has had a twitch” we asked if you had them made here at holt dentures and she said they went to Mexico to get it done. At this point we aren’t able to help, if you are usually facing any issues with your dentures, we always suggest going back to the place where you had them made. In this case… Mexico…

The Email

We also had an appointment made through our website, which said “she has recently had dentures made in Mexico, she needs an adjustment or a brand new set of dentures…” I can only imagine the pain she is experiencing. Typically touching someone else’s work is not suggested by our governing bodies, because then we could be liable for the mediocre work done in another country, It would be worth it just to start over again with your treatment in your home country.

“Redditors Horror”

While researching for this blog I looked at a few comments on Reddit. Although I cannot verify this: one user said “My friend works in a lab in Mexico. well, worked. his job got outsourced. to prison. yes. death row inmates now have the job of fixing smiles. don’t get work done in Mexico.”

Another Redditor said “I have quite literally never seen a “success story” from dental tourism. Ever. The patients are always overjoyed at how much cheaper the work is when radiographically it looks like crap and fails on them a few years later”
