Reason You Should Replace Your Missing Tooth.

Reason You Should Replace Your Missing Tooth.

Missing teeth create a gap in your smile and most likely a gap in your self-confidence. Self-esteem issues may be the biggest problem people have with a missing tooth. But you may not know that a missing tooth can have other health implications that we will discover in this blog.

What could happen

Crooked Teeth.

Your original bite will be compromised as the gap left by a missing tooth will naturally be filled in by your remaining teeth. This process can lead to inadequate chewing capabilities and also misalign your natural teeth, which can lead to TMJ problems. Speech issues can also occur – Depending on the location of your missing tooth.

Bone Resorption.

Neglecting to replace the gap from an absent tooth leads to the deterioration of the bone that once surrounded the root. This process is called Bone resorption, in which a type of cell (Oscoclat) breaks down bone tissue. After a period of time important ridges used to hold a denture in place degenerates, therefore making conventional dentures less likely to fit snug. Bone resorption is also a reason you reline your dentures every two years or so.

Appearance.

Self-esteem is one of the biggest reasons people get their teeth cleaned, fixed, or replaced. Obvious changes in your smile can take a toll on one’s self-esteem, but your facial structure will change over time after teeth are removed.

Ways to fix

Flipper

A flipper – also known as a party tooth – or acrylic removable partial can be used as a temporary fix for a missing tooth, usually not suggested for long-term use. Flippers are a quick and inexpensive way to fill gaps in your smile.

Partial Dentures

As the name suggests partial dentures are used for filling a few missing teeth in your bite. Using clasps and ridges to hold the denture in place. Unlike complete dentures that replace your entire bite; Partial dentures are used to replace a few missing teeth.

Partials can be made from Acrylic, Chomian/cobalt, and now flexible 3D printed material.

Dental Implants

More of a permanent solution – dental implants are surgically implanted into the bone where a tooth or an implant integrated denture can be attached to the implant.
