What Are Adjustments?

Receiving a new set of dentures can sometimes be a little tricky to get used to. The foreign object in your mouth will send signals to your brain, producing more saliva and getting used to talking with them again and some discomfort may be felt. Granted, some people don’t have an issue with their new appliance, but if any issue arises while getting used to your new set, adjustments are made to ease any discomfort you may feel on your new journey.

What Is An Adjustment?

Full Dentures

Pitching or rubbing the gums is pretty typical whilst getting used to your new dentures. We suggest swilling your mouth with salt water to help with this process if the discomfort ensues. Don’t be afraid to book an appointment for adjustment, during this appointment we will ease the sore spot with a handpiece little by little until discomfort eases up.

We also suggest giving these adjustment appointments a grace period of at least 30 days, Everyones pain tolerance is different so if the pain is unbearable then do not wait book your free appointment for your adjustment.

Acrylic Partial Dentures

For acrylic partials, we adjust the sore spots by easing the problem area with a handpiece little by little until there is no pain. This can get

Cast Partials

  • Clasp

Cast Partials are held in with metal clasps that effectively rest on the tooth holding the denture in place. From time to this clasp may feel loose. If this occurs book an appointment with your denture clinic and have it adjusted back into place. Leave this up to the professionals because if this clasp breaks off the retention will dwindle.

  • Acrylic

Adjusting the acrylic portion of the cast partial is the same as full dentures. Easing the problem area with a handpiece.

Booking Adjustments

If you’ve had your dentures made at Holt Dentures book an appointment for your adjustment at no extra cost. It is important to us that you wear your denture and get used to it, if you experience any issues please book a free appointment to have sore spots dealt with. Don’t be a “Hero” deal with it when the problem arises.

With that being said we do suggest you try your best to adjust to your new dentures naturally before booking an adjustment. It will take some getting used to and sometimes adjusting
